Over the mountains in San Marcos, Mexico, Herminio Cordido performs a self-induced HALO jump by catching a ride through a cloud in his paraglider all the way up to 20,439 feet (approx 6,230 meters), then does a solo jump with his BASE rig. Some of you may find this disturbing to watch, but this (older) video highlights the very real and potentially deadly effects of hypoxia on a high altitude jump. In this particular case, all of the skydivers on this plane had varying degrees of hypoxia by the time they climbed to 21,000 feet. Clearly there was... Watch Video »

Hardcore HALO: Skydiving From 30,000 Feet

This is what it looks like to do a HALO skydive from 30,000 feet (otherwise known as High Altitude Low Opening)… pretty quiet in the airplane before exit, sipping on oxygen. Mmm, delish. Imagine skydiving 30,000 feet over Mount Everest and landing on the highest dropzone in the world, Everest Skydive — 12,350 feet above ground level, the altitude where most of us begin our skydive. Why pay $50,000 and work up a sweat to climb Mount Everest when you can spend half that amount to hitch a... Watch Video »
Navy SEALs HALO Jump

Navy SEALs HALO Jump

Hooyah! This is a mashup from the movie “Navy Seals” (1990) with the song “Irreversible” by VHS or Beta during a HALO skydive from 30,000 feet. Even though the song has great build up, this scene has a bit of a cheese factor to it — minus the 4 minutes of freefall in movies like... Watch Video »
Amazing LALO: Low Altitude, Low Opening

Amazing LALO: Low Altitude, Low Opening

We’ve had this debate before… a jump made with a BASE rig and a low opening, but technically not a BASE jump by definition. So let’s just call this LALO: Low Altitude, Low Opening. Rodrigo “Cricket” Almeida jumps from 3,500 to 400 feet in his Vampire 3 wingsuit and landing on the beach at an... Watch Video »

HALO Skydive From 30,000 ft Into Extreme Desert

With a name like “Bear,” he was born to kick ass. In this episode of Discovery Channel’s Man vs. Wild, Bear Grylls attempts his highest skydive – a HALO jump, or High Altitude Low Opening, from 30,000 feet into the Mojave Desert. Oh, and did I mention it’s a cool -45 F at exit. Brrr!... Watch Video »
