Airplane vs. Parachutist

Here’s another kind of formation flying… this time with badass Red Bull Air Force aerobatic pilot, Martin Sonka, flying side-by-side with skydiver/parachutist, Petr Mestak. Martin holds the airplane in ever so slightly angled flight — much like a helicopter — right next to Mestak underneath his cross-braced parachute. Very impressive.

Swooping With Style: 2012 USPA Canopy Piloting Nationals

The best swoopers from across the country gathered at the 2012 USPA Canopy Piloting Nationals — hosted at Skydive The Farm — in search of the title of National Champion of Canopy Piloting. With a new host, new competitors, and new rules, a new champion was crowned. Curt Bartholomew took first place, followed by Nicholas Batsch and Thomas Dellibac on the podium, respectively. Congrats to everyone on a job well done. We’re all looking forward to next year!

New Skydiving Toy: The Wingman Cam

Who needs Goose or Jester from Top Gun when you have the Wingman Cam, a new flying camera platform (FCP) for GoPro cameras (or any other small format cameras). Although it’s used primarily by paragliders, Jeff Provenzano of the Red Bull Air Force takes his new toy out for a few spins on a parachute ride. Considering this was a test jump, I’m impressed with the end result. What do you think about the Wingman Cam?
