I’m sorry, say what?! You mean we can actually learn to fly like Jetman? Hell YES! It looks like Jetman Yves Rossy is working on an unpowered version of his carbon wing and opening a school to teach people how to fly it. Jetman has earned worldwide recognition for developing and flying a jet-powered wing across major landmarks like the english channel and a section of the grand canyon. Not to mention he has looped and barrel-rolled the powered version and sustained in-flight climbs.

Jetman vs. Jet Team

Yves “Jetman” Rossy Flies Over Grand Canyon

Swiss adventurer and former fighter pilot Yves “Jetman” Rossy completed an 8 minute flight over the Grand Canyon on Saturday – his first flight in the United States with his custom jet-powered carbon wing. Yves flew more than 195 feet (60 meters) above the canyon and reached speeds of up to 190 mph (305 km/h).

One of Rossy’s biggest hurdles for the canyon flight was receiving certification; in the end, the FAA classified the pilot and wing as an aircraft… and even gave him a registration number. How cool is that?!

The 51-year-old’s previous achievements in his jet-powered wing include a trip across the English Channel and flight over Lake Geneva in Switzerland. He says the U.S. flight is among the most memorable experiences of his life.

World Record 22-Mile Skydive Across English Channel

Austrian-born Felix Baumgartner set a new world record on July 31, 2003 when he became the first person to cross the English Channel with a carbon wing. From 30,000 feet (9,144 meters), Felix soared 22 miles (35 km) across the entire stretch of water between England and France, hitting a top speed of 220 mph. Felix is also the pilot for the (recently delayed) Red Bull Stratos project; their mission is to set a new freefall record from the edge of space – 120,000 feet (36,576 meters)!

Taking this stunt a step further, Yves Rossy became the first person to cross the English Channel in a jet-powered wing.
