Douggs' Off-Heading Opening, Near Miss Cliff Strik...
“Fuckin’ hell, that was close. Closest I’ve ever come.” Spoken like a true Aussie ninja, talkin’ all casual as his end cells nearly hit the trees. This was Chris ‘Douggs’ McDougall’s first serious off-heading opening after 15 years and over 2,600 BASE jumps. If this was any closer, it would’ve ended up as a proper... Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Double Tandem Collision Near Miss
Here’s something you don’t see every day (wait for it): a tandem collision near miss with one tandem in freefall and the other under canopy. Another few seconds before deploying and this might have been a tandem sandwich — or at least a very close flyby. Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: BASE Bridle Wrap + Cliff Strike!
As if hucking a double gainer off a cliff wasn’t enough excitement for one day, this lucky sonuvabitch (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) has a bridle wrap and a cliff strike on the same jump… and lands without a scratch! Yah, I’m gonna stick with LUCKY!! Watch Video »
Weather Hold Win! Who Needs A Plane When...
Pure weather hold inspired awesomeness! Who needs a plane when you can get towed up to 500 feet under canopy, chop the tow cable and your main, then pitch your BASE rig while on your back. Move along kids… nothin’ sketchy to see here. Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Bridle Wrap, Wingsuit Rodeo Goes ...
What could possibly go wrong with a wingsuit rodeo — if it doesn’t work out, you just fall off the wingsuit and business as usual, right? Think again. Remember, wingsuits have large burbles. Here’s what can happen if you pitch while on the back of a wingsuit, not to mention the extra pucker factor of... Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Skydiver Survives Double Parachut...
A double malfunction is a skydiver’s worst nightmare, no matter how experienced they are. With more than 7,000 jumps under his belt, Craig Stapleton’s nightmare came true after dumping his reserve into the mess above his head. But he miraculously lives to tell the tale after hitting the ground at 30 MPH. When everything goes... Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Crazy Plane Landing! Don't Try Th...
For the first few minutes of this clip, all I can think of is Kitty Corliss. Seriously. Watch it and you’ll understand. Then I’m distracted by the hectic, crazy, maddog skills of this pilot. Don’t try this at home?! Screw that, if you can pull this off, I’ll buy you TONS of beer! Respect. Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Sled BASE Jump Almost Ends In Dis...
Instead of a tried and true ski-BASE exit, Dennis Ohlsen opted to ride a sled off the edge of a snowy cliff. Sure, a fun idea in theory… until your sled gets stuck on the edge, sending you off said cliff with almost no forward speed. Dennis comes incredibly close to the cliff in his... Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Crazy Close Call, Misses Parachut...
When you’re trying to get separation before you pull, don’t do this! Short of hitting the other parachute in freefall (like this guy), it doesn’t get much closer than this. Thanks to Morgan Mackay at Vertical Films for sending us the video of his crazy close call — I’m glad this ended well for you... Watch Video »
Airplane vs. Parachutist
Here’s another kind of formation flying… this time with badass Red Bull Air Force aerobatic pilot, Martin Sonka, flying side-by-side with skydiver/parachutist, Petr Mestak. Martin holds the airplane in ever so slightly angled flight — much like a helicopter — right next to Mestak underneath his cross-braced parachute. Very impressive. Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: BASE Low Pull, Seconds From Impac...
It’s hard to tell from this angle just how close this BASE jumper was from pounding in, but it looks like he was seconds away from impact. He’s lucky he didn’t fumble his PC, like this guy. Watch Video »
Friday Freakoout: Insane 200 MPH Plane Fly-By, Mis...
When you’re seconds (or feet) from death, it’s said that your life flashes before your eyes. But in this case, it’s a plane flying 200 MPH directly at them. Dunno about you, but I’d say that’s way cooler! Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Where's Waldo? Near Mid-Air Colli...
Soooo, a skydiver in this group fell below the formation and instead of getting back up to the formation or watching them until break-off, he just decided to track off in a random direction and hope for the best. Without knowing where Waldo went, the videographer tracks away at break-off and nearly collides in mid-air... Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Skydiving Student's Low, Low, LOW...
Maintaining altitude awareness is a good thing. Having an instructor that saves your ass is even better, especially when you’re flopping around on your back and then you freeze at pull time, like deer in the headlights. Before watching the very last second of this video, take a guess at his deployment altitude. Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Zoo Dive, Close Call Openings
Talk about a zoo dive. Here’s a dozen skydivers on a tracking jump at the Invasion 2012 and a few of the people that fell behind get a little too close for comfort, tracking over each other — and towards each other — at break-off. The 180 opening didn’t help either. Compared to this other... Watch Video »
Swooping Is The Shit. Period.
So you’re a new skydiver with 25 jumps under your belt. You’ve just bought a Velocity 84 and you say things like “I want to swoop, teach me to swoop.” Bad idea, but I don’t blame you. Swooping is the shit! Period. Thanks to Voytec Gvazda for sharing this cool compilation. Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Premature Opening On Big Way. Not...
This 30-way formation skydive became a 29-way after a premature deployment right after exiting the lead plane. He didn’t have a chance to wave off, so his friend waved off for him. Well, it was more like a wave goodbye, but it’s the thought that counts. Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Opening Parachute Hits Instructor...
Sometimes when a situation takes a downward spiral, you’ve got to take matters into your own hands. One of these skydiving instructors keeps his hands on the student. Good call. The other instructor takes a set of lines to the face instead. Not such a good call. Watch Video »
Swooping Spreadeagle Stunt. Always Trust Your Rear...
When you get bored of swooping the pond, you can always resort to swooping your friend — spreadeagle style. The first pass is a little high, but the second one is bang on; any lower and neither of them would be laughing. Trust your friend… and always trust your rears. Someone get this guy a... Watch Video »
