“Fuckin’ hell, that was close. Closest I’ve ever come.” Spoken like a true Aussie ninja, talkin’ all casual as his end cells nearly hit the trees. This was Chris ‘Douggs’ McDougall’s first serious off-heading opening after 15 years and over 2,600 BASE jumps. If this was any closer, it would’ve ended up as a proper Friday Freakout cliff strike, but Douggs handled it like the pro that he is. But what else would ya expect – he’s from ‘Straya!

What could possibly go wrong with a wingsuit rodeo — if it doesn’t work out, you just fall off the wingsuit and business as usual, right? Think again. Remember, wingsuits have large burbles. Here’s what can happen if you pitch while on the back of a wingsuit, not to mention the extra pucker factor of your bridle wrapping around your camera while the pilot chute bounces around in said burble. Sliding off the side of the wingsuit is safer for both parties. Thanks to Spot for the video and advice.

Friday Freakout: Sled BASE Jump Almost Ends In Disaster

Instead of a tried and true ski-BASE exit, Dennis Ohlsen opted to ride a sled off the edge of a snowy cliff. Sure, a fun idea in theory… until your sled gets stuck on the edge, sending you off said cliff with almost no forward speed. Dennis comes incredibly close to the cliff in his first few seconds of freefall, but luckily he escapes without a scratch.

When you’re trying to get separation before you pull, don’t do this! Short of hitting the other parachute in freefall (like this guy), it doesn’t get much closer than this. Martin holds the airplane in ever so slightly angled flight — much like a helicopter — right next to Mestak underneath his cross-braced parachute. Very impressive.

Soooo, a skydiver in this group fell below the formation and instead of getting back up to the formation or watching them until break-off, he just decided to track off in a random direction and hope for the best. Without knowing where Waldo went, the videographer tracks away at break-off and nearly collides in mid-air with Waldo.

Talk about a zoo dive. Here’s a dozen skydivers on a tracking jump at the Invasion 2012 and a few of the people that fell behind get a little too close for comfort, tracking over each other — and towards each other — at break-off. The 180 opening didn’t help either. Compared to this other parachute collision in freefall, this close opening doesn’t look so bad.
