This just might be the dumbest thing Solomon Ould has ever done. He wanted to ground launch off the other side of the mountain and land on the beach. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but without much wind and no (good) landing area in sight, his unplanned journey leads to an epic crash-landing in a forest of tall trees — almost getting impaled by a broken tree stump in the process.

Friday Freakout: Triple Fail Trifecta – 3 Speedflying Crashes

After watching this, I’m having second thoughts about trying speedflying, or flying a pink parachute. OUCH! Triple ouch. First he crashes into a tree, followed by a failed barrel roll, and then he comes up short while trying to clear a gap and crashes into a cliff. Pretty scenery, not so pretty landings… even with snow and skis to soften the hits. Ça va?!

We’ve all the seen edited footage of Jeb Corliss’ wingsuit crash on Table Mountain. But here’s raw, unedited footage most of you haven’t seen. The Miracle Man Corliss has recovered from this near-death experience, and still has 8 lives left — give or take a few. Just the thought of hitting a mountain in a wingsuit at 120 MPH makes me cringe. Imagine how he felt. Glad you’re still with us Jeb.

Friday Freakout: Skydivers/Pilot Escape Plane Before Crash

To say this story is intense would be an understatement. It’s 61 seconds of terror. In short, a skydiver’s reserve pops open in the door and rips off the tail of the plane. The remaining skydivers make it out before the plane goes into a violent spin, but the pilot gets trapped as the door slams shut. Incredibly, he manages to escape only 1,000 feet above the ground before impact. WOW!

Here’s a lesson in ground launching. Step 1: Don’t do this! Step 2: See step 1. Clearly not the best way to start off a day of speedflying, but despite the minor crash he still managed to brush himself off and squeeze out a few good flights for the rest of the session. Of all the ground launching fails, I’d have to say the paraglider who cheated death in Moab is scariest I’ve ever seen.

Mike Holmes survived a nasty double malfunction at Taupo Tandem Skydiving in New Zealand, making a nauseating thud as he hit the ground at 70+ MPH. His intense footage aired on the Today Show shortly after his accident in December 2006. I’m not sure that luckily landing in a plump patch of blackberry bushes helped Mike survive this high speed crash (maybe it did?), but I bet he eats blackberries every day for breakfast; wouldn’t you?

This is crazysauce! A skydiver crashes into a paraglider while tracking over a beach in Oludeniz, Turkey. I’m not sure I agree with blaming the skydiver or the paraglider; I think the mistake here was sharing airspace in the first place, but some of you might feel differently. What do you think?
