Friday Freakout: Skydiver Hits Head HARD On Plane!

The skyvan was flying at the Invasion 2012, and this is a good example of how NOT to exit said aircraft. We call it “jumping” for a reason… because we’re jumping out of planes, not casually stepping out of them. Despite how bad this looks/sounds, luckily he was wearing a helmet and he landed safely without injury. #INVASIONweek wouldn’t be complete without a little carnage.

Memorial Skydive: A Tribute To Ted Strong

In honor of the late Ted Strong (D-16), owner of Strong Parachutes and one of the sport’s giant figures, a memorial skydive was done over Skydive DeLand during the 2012 Skydive Expo in Florida. There are too many stories to write about the legend that is Ted Strong, but he will forever be missed and never forgotten. Blue skies brother. RIP.

Nick Vujicic: No Arms. No Legs. No Limits!

Nick Vujicic is a true inspiration — not only because he’s a motivational speaker, but because of his story. Born without limbs due to the rare Tetra-amelia disorder, life hasn’t been easy for Nick. But this video is proof that he’s living a life of dreaming big and not giving up. Skydiving has been on Nick’s bucket list for a while, so the team at United Parachute Technologies (UPT) built a custom harness for Nick’s first tandem skydive at Skydive DeLand in Florida. What’s next Nick… a tandem BASE jump?

Friday Freakout: AFF Student Loses Both Instructors

Poor Robi Lanana never did a tandem skydive, but Andre Stepsky got video of Robi’s first AFF jump (level 1) at Skydive DeLand, which didn’t exactly go according to plan. Both instructors lose their grip on exit, but luckily he remembered to arch like his life depended on it and the instructors eventually caught his ass. Good stuff Robi… way to get stable on your own; at least you got some head-down action as a student!

Friday Freakout: Sit Fly Premature Deployment

Ansar Mohammed got a nice surprise — a premature deployment — while sit flying with Whit Bakers, Andre Stepsky and Joe “The German” at Skydive Sebastian in Florida. He’s lucky he wasn’t head down when this happened, like this scary head down opening. Yet another reminder to check your pilot chute and closing loop before every exit. Have a fun and safe weekend everyone.
