Skydiving history, right here! The X-Games coverage of the freefly competition in 1997 between Z Airtime, the Fly Boyz, and the Freefly Clowns. Not the time of belly-mounted reserves or anything, but the time of loud jumpsuits and antics on the podium. Ok, so the antics haven’t changed a whole lot. Super cool snapshot into some of the flyers who brought freeflying to our sport. Respect.

Wow, what better way to celebrate aviation than by pushing our boundaries within it. Yves “Jetman” Rossy flies his wing in close formation with pilot Nigel Lamb in an iconic aircraft — the Spitfire MH434. Various angles really tell the story from take-off to landing for both pilots. Amazing footage to watch for any skydiver, or any lover of aviation in general.

Here’s video from the Red Bull Stratos skydive that we’ve all been waiting for — raw headcam footage from Felix Baumgartner’s record breaking skydive from 128,000ft, where he breaks the sound barrier and recovers from a faaaaast flat spin at supersonic speed. Mach 1.24 in a spacesuit… just another day at the office for Felix.

Official Video: Felix Baumgartner’s World Record Skydive From 128,000ft

Mission accomplished! After flying to an altitude of more than 128,000 feet (39,000 meters) in a helium-filled balloon, Red Bull Stratos pilot Felix Baumgartner completed a record breaking skydive on October 14, 2012 from the edge of space (I know, I know… it’s not actually the edge of space, but their marketing team deserves to have some fun too). During his 4:20 freefall, Felix reached a maximum speed of 833mph (1,342.8 km/h), which set a new world record as the first human in history to break the sound barrier with his body! Mach 1.24… in a spacesuit! The 43-year-old Austrian also broke two other world records (highest freefall, highest manned balloon flight), leaving the record for the longest freefall to project mentor Col. Joe Kittinger.

Red Bull Stratos: Historic Skydive From 128,000… Inches?!

Red Bull Stratos made history on October 14, 2012 when professional BASE jumper Felix Baumgartner set a new world record as the first human to skydive from 128,000 feet. Or was that inches? Whatever. I can’t confirm this is official footage, but I can confirm this is a 1:350 scale recreation of the historic jump. Well played, model makers. Well played.

Hilarious 1984 Skydiving Remake of Van Halen’s “Jump”

OMG! THIS is hilarious skydiving history right here, my friends. In 1984, a group of jumpers re-made the skydiving version of Van Halen’s song “Jump.” Sure, it’s pretty easy to edit videos nowadays, but these guys did it when it wasn’t. And it’s awesome! Nobody’s wearing a helmet, and everyone has a dirty stache and a massive jumpsuit. But I’ll be damned if these guys didn’t help pave the way to where our sport is now. Totally hilarious, totally historic, totally watch it.

Gary Connery’s World Record Wingsuit Landing (Aerial View)

Check out this aerial view of Gary Connery’s world record wingsuit landing. On May 23, 2012, stuntman Gary Connery became the first skydiver in history to land a wingsuit without a parachute, with the help of 18,000 cardboard boxes as his landing strip. The people who helped set up all those boxes were probably a little pissed, considering more than 75% of them weren’t used… but probably not as pissed as Jeb Corliss (kidding, kidding). Congrats Gary!

BREAKING: World’s First Wingsuit Landing Without Parachute

Congrats to stuntman Gary Connery on making aviation history on May 23, 2012 as the first skydiver in the world to land a wingsuit without a parachute. The landing strip consisted of 18,000 cardboard boxes stacked 350ft long, 40ft wide and 12ft deep. Crazy, but way cool. What an amazing “first”… that’s beer Gary!

World’s First Wingsuit Flight THROUGH Mountain in China

He did it! The fearless Jeb Corliss made history on September 24, 2011 as the first person to fly a wingsuit through Tianmen Hole — an actual hole through a mountain — in Hunan Province, China. Jeb jumped from a helicopter 6,500 feet above the mountain before flying through the 360-foot-tall, 96-foot-wide, 260-foot-long hole in his wingsuit. Congrats buddy!
