At a dropzone somewhere in Middle Earth, one skydiver did pitch his pilot chute through a loop of shock cord on his jacket. Holy horsehoe, Batman! With his reserve pilot chute entangled in the risers and the canopy turning, he makes a heroic effort to straighten it out before landing. We love happy endings to malfunctions… good work!

Friday Freakout: A Horseshoe Is NOT Lucky, It’s A Malfunction!

Ever try to get down to a formation with your d-bag and lines bouncing around? Umm, that’s called a horseshoe and, contrary to Irish folklore, a horseshoe while skydiving is NOT lucky — it’s a malfunction! The key is to ignore the malfunction and arch harder. Oh, and dodge your friend who’s trying to dump you out. Or maybe he was trying to dock — it’s somewhat unclear. Lol. But at least they got a nice 4-way after he deployed, and everyone reached the ground safely.

Friday Freakout: Scary Horseshoe Malfunction + Entanglement

If there’s ever a time you’d soil your pants from a scary parachute malfunction, I’d say this is it — when your closing pin pops on exit, you have a horseshoe malfunction, and then get entangled in said horseshoe. Holy shit! Luckily Matt Englehart landed safely after clearing through the lines and chopping that mess. And, thanks to Brandon Lecocq sharing his video with us, we can all learn from this. Friday Freakout: Nasty Horseshoe Malfunction Around Foot

Nothing like a nasty horseshoe malfunction wrapping around your foot and ruining your clean pair of underwear at the same time, then cutting away while upside down and landing with the main still in the bag and wrapped around your foot. Now he’ll need a reserve re-pack and a new pair of underwear. Shitty deal (pun intended).
