Um, we can all agree that Yves “Jetman” Rossy is a total badass, right? Okay cool. Well he keeps upping his game, from controlled barrel rolls and flying loops around hot air balloons, to the world’s first flight beside a passenger aircraft — the Breitling DC-3. Not to mention footage from inside the aircraft as he does it. Ridiculous. Amazing. I want one. Now.

Yves “Jetman” Rossy Flies Over Grand Canyon

Swiss adventurer and former fighter pilot Yves “Jetman” Rossy completed an 8 minute flight over the Grand Canyon on Saturday – his first flight in the United States with his custom jet-powered carbon wing. Yves flew more than 195 feet (60 meters) above the canyon and reached speeds of up to 190 mph (305 km/h).

One of Rossy’s biggest hurdles for the canyon flight was receiving certification; in the end, the FAA classified the pilot and wing as an aircraft… and even gave him a registration number. How cool is that?!

The 51-year-old’s previous achievements in his jet-powered wing include a trip across the English Channel and flight over Lake Geneva in Switzerland. He says the U.S. flight is among the most memorable experiences of his life.

Start zee engines! Rumor has it that ex-fighter pilot Yves “Jetman” Rossy had no choice but to design this amazing jetpack because his balls of steel were too heavy for skydiving. Ok, maybe not. But he has made history: he set the world record as the first person in a jet-powered wing to successfully cross the English Channel, flying 22 miles in under 10 minutes and reaching speeds of 186 mph (299 km/h). Wile E. Coyote’s got nothing on Yves “Jet Man” Rossy.
