Seems like Johnny Strange was a bit quick on his emergency procedures (wink, wink). What was he waiting for… the ground??! Check out his epic fight against some pretty daunting line twists — although this still doesn’t beat Brian Germain’s 80 seconds of line twists. Nice work on a valiant effort and a safe chop! Did anyone else find themselves trying to kick out of it or reach for their handles while watching this?

Ever get slammed by your canopy? WHABAM! If it hasn’t happened to you at least once (yet), you’re doing it wrong. Wait, no. Disregard. This hard opening left Steve Rivello dazed and confused with multiple herniated discs in his neck. I’m not a doctor, but something tells me that’ll really mess up your day. Canopy: 1, Neck: 0.

Holy line twists, Batman! Parachute test pilot Brian Germain does a high pull with a test canopy, immediately fighting line twists with a hefty spin. After 80 seconds of battling the line twists, Brian finally settles out and talks through the thought process of how to get yourself through a malfunction safely. It goes without saying that Germain is an experienced test pilot with over 13,000 skydives, so please don’t try this at home.

Friday Freakout: AFF Instructor Low Pull + Malfunction

Although this AFF instructor-in-training seems a little nervous, there’s no reason he should’ve dumped this low. Line twists below 2,000 feet are a pain in the ass, but then chopping that low and having to deal with more line twists on your reserve really sucks! A little ground rush is fun from time to time, unless you just had a flat spin in your wingsuit followed by a cutaway and reserve pilot chute in tow. A double malfunction can really mess up your day. If you were in this situation, would you have given up on the line twists that quickly before chopping?

This is the unofficial how-to video for “canopy proximity flying.” I’m not entirely sure if this was a wingsuit malfunction or a pilot error, but it turns into a shit show real quick. An unstable deployment. Nasty line twists. Avoiding a cliff strike by inches. Oh, and a vuvuzela horn blowing at 0:53. This guy’s lucky to be alive. Next time, he might want to wait until he lands before busting out the vuvuzela.
