Here’s another kind of formation flying… this time with badass Red Bull Air Force aerobatic pilot, Martin Sonka, flying side-by-side with skydiver/parachutist, Petr Mestak. Martin holds the airplane in ever so slightly angled flight — much like a helicopter — right next to Mestak underneath his cross-braced parachute. Very impressive.

What do you get when a skydiver with only 115 jumps decides to use a camera and impress a girl? A video with too many mistakes to mention. After everything that goes wrong, at least he remembers to collapse his slider, right?! He’s lucky all this cost was a reserve pack job and a new pair of underwear. If he really wants to impress her, maybe he’ll buy her a second glove.

Who needs Goose or Jester from Top Gun when you have the Wingman Cam, a new flying camera platform (FCP) for GoPro cameras (or any other small format cameras). Although it’s used primarily by paragliders, Jeff Provenzano of the Red Bull Air Force takes his new toy out for a few spins on a parachute ride. Considering this was a test jump, I’m impressed with the end result. What do you think about the Wingman Cam?

Friday Freakout: Parachute Opens, Catches On Plane Tail

As the saying goes, “Plan the jump and jump the plan.” But sometimes a jump just doesn’t go according to plan. Like when your parachute deploys in the door and wraps around the tail of the plane, tossing you around like a puppet on strings. This video, as well as the premature parachute opening on exit and the GoPro snagging a reserve handle, should serve as constant reminder to always check your gear and protect your handles.

Losing your helmet in freefall is never fun (watch closely at the 0:03 mark). Neither is a canopy collision/wrap immediately after dumping your main. This video is from the good ‘ol days — 1989 — back when, apparently, tracking away at break-off was only a suggestion. Oh well, nice video.
