This just might be the dumbest thing Solomon Ould has ever done. He wanted to ground launch off the other side of the mountain and land on the beach. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but without much wind and no (good) landing area in sight, his unplanned journey leads to an epic crash-landing in a forest of tall trees — almost getting impaled by a broken tree stump in the process.

Thermals are a paraglider’s wet dream. That is until your paraglider goes boom! Then that wet dream turns into wet underwear faster than you can say “oh shiiiii…” As the ground rush intensifies, the video cuts out — he didn’t think his GoPro was on, so he thought he was turning it on to film the impact but ended up turning it off instead. Double fail.

Friday Freakout: Ground Launch Fail

Here’s a lesson in ground launching. Step 1: Don’t do this! Step 2: See step 1. Clearly not the best way to start off a day of speedflying, but despite the minor crash he still managed to brush himself off and squeeze out a few good flights for the rest of the session. Of all the ground launching fails, I’d have to say the paraglider who cheated death in Moab is scariest I’ve ever seen.

Friday Freakout: Truck Hits Paraglider

Some days are better than others. Unfortunately for this paraglider, this just wasn’t his day. And I’m sure the next morning wasn’t any better. Maybe he was trying to copy Nick Batsch’s truck landing, but the timing was a little off? At least he learned a lesson: use the crosswalk next time.

Friday Freakout: Angry Birds vs. Paraglider

Don’t you hate it when you’re paragliding through the Indian Himalayas and a couple of real-life angry birds come along and mess your shit up? I sure do. But this Ruskie handles it like a champ. After a reserve ride and hard landing, all is well. Even the “angry bird” survives.
