Bodysurfin' at Spaceland
Antonio Arias docking David Israd, dropknee style, on his 800th jump at Skydive Spaceland in Houston, Texas. Happy 800th David! This reminds me of this bodysurfing exit at Skydive Elsinore. View Photo »
Dancing On Clouds
Jessica Fragoso of Team Wonderland dancing on the clouds for her 300th jump at Skydive The Ranch in New York. Happy 300th Jessica. Please send some beer our way. Photo by Victor “BAM” Howard. This pic reminds me of Natanie Cogburn standing on top of the world. View Photo »
Skydiving Car: First Test Drive In Freefall
The über talented Steve and Sara Curtis, Greg Gasson and Joe Jennings took the Chevy Sonic on its first skydiving adventure in the Arizona desert. And apparently Chevy’s new Wile E. Coyote option — a massive parachute — works as advertised. I call “shotgun” on the next jump! Watch Video »
Friday Freakout: Surprise!... Canopy Collision
Losing your helmet in freefall is never fun (watch closely at the 0:03 mark). Neither is a canopy collision/wrap immediately after dumping your main. This video is from the good ‘ol days — 1989 — back when, apparently, tracking away at break-off was only a suggestion. Oh well, nice video. Watch Video »
200-Way Record Attempt Over California
Following yesterday’s photo of the 200-way exit, this is Craig O’Brien’s video of 200 of the world’s most talented skydivers attempting to break the California state record at Skydive Perris in October 2011 (submission as an official record is still pending). Congrats to everyone on the jump! Craig, that’s some badass backslididing at break-off. Watch Video »
Big Way Traffic: 200-Way Exit
A little traffic is expected on big ways, especially when 200 skydivers exiting 9 aircraft attempt to set a new California state formation skydiving record at Skydive Perris. Landing must have been interesting; kind of like this big way landing traffic, only twice as many skydivers/canopies. This is just a teaser for tomorrow’s video, so... View Photo »
The Upskirt View of a Canopy Flock
All you gear sluts out there surely remember the rad skull and crossbones SkyArt canopy I posted back in September. Well here’s another upskirt view of Team Off Track’s sexy SkyArt canopies from Icarus Canopies (by NZ Aerosports). The canopy design competition ends tomorrow (October 19th)… so hurry up and submit your design on Icarus’... View Photo »
Blazin' Trails at Air Show
After seeing this shot from below, it’s pretty cool to see the first-person view of Marco Tiezzi leading the atmonauti flock at the 2011 ATP Airshow Locorotondo in Italy. Photo by Marco Tiezzi. Check out the other angle of this shot from below. View Photo »
Friday Freakout: Skydiver Almost Hits Plane
Skydivers and planes go together like parachutes and gravity… except when planes fly along jump run when it’s time to pull. It’s a good thing parachutes and gravity still work well together, because that’s the only thing stopping this guy from hitting the plane in freefall. Have you ever had a close call like this... Blue Skies and Water Over Thailand
A 14-way formation skydive at the 2009 Thai Sky Festival in — you guessed it — Thailand. Unfortunately the 2011 Thai Sky Festival was cancelled but will hopefully be back next year. This shot reminds me of a few skydiving pics in paradise, like Luigi Cani flying his wingsuit over Fiji and this 6-way formation... View Photo »
Friday Freakout: Dumb and Dumber, Dirty Low Pull
This is ninety seconds of dumb and dumber. At least he realized how dumb this was and hopefully learned from it. In other news, I’ve heard AADs save lives, and rumor has it that flaring helps for soft landings. I still think this insane dirty low pull is the lowest I’ve ever seen — it’s... Watch Video »
