i meaned that you could land with this canopy probably without hurts, maybe you would break a leg, but you will survive for sure. and what would you do when the reserve has a malfunction too?

i would try to land with this main, because i think the risk is too big that the reserve doesn’t come out.. but i’m a newbie in parachuting, so please correct me if i am wrong. sorry for my englisch, i come from germany

A step through at that altitude ? Easy fix ! you simply disconnect the right riser, thread it back through the left side line, then reconnect the riser. No need to chop unless you go below a grand getting the job done…..

He did the right thing–If he’d cut away when he discovered the malfunction his main would have landed 3 states away, and he’d never have gotten it back.

Sloppy pack job then tried to catch his own freebag while under the reserve.
What would he have done if the freebag had wrapped around his lines.
Watch where your stuff lands then go and pick it up when your safe on the ground.

3 things cause Malfuntions
1. Bad Packing, not doing a line continuity check when putting the main back on the rig!
2. Bad maintance!
3. Bad body positions!

Stuff that. In that situation I’d cut away much sooner, to get more time under the reserve. Altitude is valuable – I wouldn’t burn 8000 feet under a canopy which is going to get chopped. ;-)

Sweet Jeebus! And to make it really interesting, he does a low-altitude buzz- job of his chopped main at 5:40! Risk-Reward ratio to that manuever makes it a no-go every time.
