However, it is and always was a military term and the following is the correct definition. HALO are jumps made with an exit altitude of UP TO 35,000 feet MSL and a parachute deployment altitude at or BELOW 6,000 feet AGL. HAHO are jumps made with an exit altitude of up to 35,000 feet MSL and a parachute deployment altitude at or ABOVE 6,000 feet AGL. Field Manual FM 3-05.211 (FM 31-19) Special Forces MFF Operations April 2005Above 35K needs very special permission as military aircraft are not authorized to drop jumpers above that. Opening below 3500 ft is also not authorized and is more than dangerous, its stupid and would compromise missions. Are there exceptions?
